A pair of Owensboro teenagers are facing numerous charges including possession of a handgun, trafficking in marijuana and fleeing police after leading police on a two-county chase for nearly 30 minutes Tuesday night, according to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office.
Both juveniles are currently lodged in the Warren County Juvenile Detention Center.
A 17-year-old male has been charged with: speeding 26 mph or greater; insufficient head lamps; reckless driving; failure to or improper signal; no operators license; DUI (first offense); disregard stop sign; disregard traffic control device; possession of a handgun by a minor (first offense); trafficking in marijuana (less than 8 oz., first offense — enhanced); fleeing or evading police (first degree — motor vehicle).
A 13-year-old male has been charged with: possession of a handgun by a minor (first offense); trafficking in marijuana (less than 8 oz., first offense — enhanced); fleeing or evading police (first degree — on foot).
According to DCSO, at approximately 10:38 p.m. a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near the intersection of West Parrish Avenue and Bosley Road on suspicion of someone driving under the influence. The driver ignored deputies’ emergency equipment and refused to stop the vehicle, resulting in a vehicle pursuit lasting approximately 30 minutes, according to a release.
DCSO said with assistance from Kentucky State Police and the Henderson County Sheriff’s Department, spike strips were utilized and the vehicle pursuit ended near the intersection of US 60 West and Ernest Lane in Henderson County, where the driver and another occupant fled on foot.
The driver was arrested after a short foot pursuit. The passenger was located and arrested a short time later.
