Fastek

Chris Murphy founded Fastek in 2014, assisting small- and medium-sized businesses to overcome their technological challenges. The name is derived from his team’s desire to produce fast technology systems.

Murphy left his position in a small information technology (IT) company in 2008 to head the IT department at a local manufacturing company. Though his full-time job was in the corporate world, there remained several committed clients that didn’t want anyone else servicing their devices.

“After a few years, that customer base had grown, and by the end of 2013, the side business had grown significantly and needed more attention,” Murphy said. “That’s when I decided to start Fastek officially.”

Murphy said their desire has always been to be different.

“In our logo, you’ll see the S is comprised of less than and greater than symbols. When used like this <> they can mean ‘Not Equal To,’” he said.

Fastek’s services range from managed IT services and cyber security to network design and HIPAA compliance. They also specialize in business continuity and disaster recovery solutions and VoIP phones.

Through their managed IT services division, Fastek can provide remote and on-site maintenance and proactive care, backups, antivirus, security assessments, security monitoring, and more.

“Essentially, it’s like hiring an entire IT department plus all the tools needed to monitor and support a business environment at a fraction of the cost,” Murphy said.

The cyber security division conducts vulnerability scans, penetration testing, and patch management. Murphy said that allows them to test a business’ environment to determine what vulnerabilities exist and what resolutions can be implemented.

Murphy and his team also design networks for businesses to ensure maximum efficiency. Additionally, they troubleshoot performance issues to identify the source of the problems and resolve it.

The business continuity and disaster recovery solutions team takes proactive and reactive measures to assist businesses when a natural disaster strikes.

“Our business continuity and disaster recovery solutions can keep a business moving no matter what happens. Backups are stored locally and off-site and can be spun up as virtual machines to keep the business running whether there is a server failure, fire, or natural disaster,” Murphy said.

Murphy and his wife are Owensboro natives and consider Owensboro a great place to live and operate a business.

“We love Owensboro,” Murphy said. “My wife and I have been here our who lives and have deep relationships with friends and family. Part of our goal as a company is to raise the level of IT for the entire community.”

The Murphys are also on the technology advisory board for Owensboro Community and Technical College, often offering students internships and providing real-world support in the education system.

Fastek is located at 1330 Carter Road and maintains weekday hours from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Contact them at 270-240-2840 to learn more about their many services. They also maintain a website here, and are active on Facebook and Instagram.

“We want to see local businesses succeed and will do our best to make sure technology isn’t a roadblock for them,” Murphy said. “Our mission is to exceed customer expectations with IT services that ultimately improve our community.”
