After a strong defensive showing in back-to-back quarters, Trinity (Whitesville) had to battle in order to fend off a fourth-quarter comeback from Grayson County in a 49-46 road win.

Both teams got off to a slow start, with the Cougars grabbing a 10-6 lead after the first thanks to a pair of threes from senior Keegan Sharp. Thanks to junior Landon Huff, the Raiders bounced back in the second quarter.

Huff notched eight points in the quarter, leading Trinity to 13 points in the second. Defensively the Raiders were able to limit Grayson County to single digits as well, claiming a 19-16 lead at halftime.

Trinity extended its lead out of the locker room, rattling off nine points from deep and holding the Cougars to eight points. And while the Raiders took a 36-24 lead into the fourth, Grayson County wasn’t done just yet.

Thanks to a combined 16 points from the senior duo of Chandler Mccrady (nine) and Sharp (seven), the Cougars exploded for 22 points in the fourth. While Trinity was only able to register 13 points in the quarter, the hole Grayson County had dug itself was too deep, as the Raiders walked away with the narrow 49-46 win.

Sharp finished with 16 points on the night to match Huff as the leading scorer on the night, while Mccrady chipped in 13 for the Cougars and junior Nathan Hernandez tallied 11 points for Trinity.

The Raiders improved to 14-11 overall with their second win over Grayson County this season, as they will look to finish their three-game roadstand at 2-1 with a win over Bethlehem at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
