Gabe Adams and Cade Johnson led the Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team on Sunday at the Greyhound Open. The Panthers saw a select group of wrestlers pick-up matches at the annual event with Adams finishing fourth overall.
With a handful of Panther participants in the field, Adams won his first two matches by decision to get to the semifinals of 141-pound bracket. Adams lost his semifinal match and headed to the consolation bracket where he pinned Nathan Berta from Calumet College to get to the third place match.
It stood as Adams’ second win over Berta as the two faced off in the opening round. Adams tournament came to an in the third place match.
Johnson debut for the Panthers on Saturday at the Greyhound Duals where he picked up two tough losses. On Sunday Johnson fell in the opening round to Alex Rivera from Bellarmine, but then made an impressive march through the consolation bracket.
First Johnson picked up a pin over Hayden Caskey in the first period. He then pinned Corbin Hale from Bellarmine early in the second period to advance further. Wabash’s Tyson Nisley ended Johnson run in the next round.
The Panthers will make-up their dual wit Lindenwood on Wednesday. The match is scheduled for 5 PM.
