The Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling team had a pair of duals on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers lost to No. 14 Indianapolis at the Greyhound Duals and Notre Dame College (OH). Their contest against Wheeling was cancelled due to travel restrictions caused by the weather.
With a shorthanded squad, the Panthers saw Cade Johnson debut at 157-pounds against the host Greyhounds. Johnson gave-up four nearfall points to Nathan Conley in the first period, but Johnson quickly escaped and reversed Conley. Johnson trailed 8-7 heading into the third, but could not find the takedown to tie the bout, falling 9-7.
Kairus Washington also dropped a close 3-2 match at heavyweight against Jay Thompson. An early take-down was the difference as Thomas was granted a stalling point in the final period to take the one-point victory.
The Panthers lost 51-0 to Notre Dame later in the day. Johnson carried a 4-2 lead into the final period, but Alessandro Ramirez recorded a late takedown with four nearfall points added to defeat Johnson 11-6.
Wesleyan will have a select number of wrestlers competing tomorrow (Sunday) at the Greyhound Open. The Panthers will also make-up their dual wit Lindenwood on Wednesday. The match is scheduled for 5 p.m.
